Chuck E Cheese Reading Rewards

My daughter loves to read. A LOT. So this summer I signed her up for 7 different reading programs. Some of them are short term, like completing a chart, and others last all summer long. One of the short ones I signed her up for is through Chuck E Cheese with their Reading Rewards calender. Now they have 21 different rewards calendars you can print out for your kids – rewarding them for things like going potty and graduating. This is very handy for kids and helps your wallet a little on your visit. Children get 10 free tokens for each completed calendar they bring in. The catch is that you can only bring in one calendar per day.

For those who have kids who read a lot, this is another good reward system. You can buy them a pizza lunch and let them play for a while, getting more tokens if you want. I know my daughter loves the feeling of accomplishment and pride when she completes a chart or program like this. And it’s fun to get rewarded! 🙂

What summer reading programs have your children really enjoyed?

Dig Into Reading Public Library Summer Reading Program

My daughter loves to read. A LOT. So this summer I signed her up for 7 different reading programs. Some of them are short and some last all summer long. One of the ones that lasts throughout the summer is the Dig Into Reading program from our local library. With this program they give out rewards every week if your child has read books. Since my daughter reads chapter books she does 9 a week for this program. These can be counted towards her other programs as well. They don’t have a set amount you have to read or a certain type of book which is really nice. They even have one for adults as well that I enter into each week. So far I haven’t won anything.

The first week my daughter got a free book. The librarian was kind enough to go look in the back to see what chapter books she had that might interest my daughter. She found this book: The White Giraffe. This seemed to appeal to her, though she hasn’t read it yet. I appreciated the librarian going out of her way to find something that my daughter would actually enjoy!

Week 2 she got another one of those drawstring backpacks like she got from the Dion’s Club Read program. She hasn’t used it because those thin rope straps just aren’t comfortable on the shoulders once you put stuff in the bags. For week 3 she got to pick out two different seed packets. I loved this reward because it encourages her to grow something and get out in nature. She picked Daisies and Wildflowers. 🙂 Week 4 is another free book, week 5 is a surprise reward, week 6 they get 2 little dinosaur skeleton toys, week 7 is a colorful centipede toy, and week 8 is another free book. Not bad at all!

Most public libraries do some sort of summer reading program, at least I know the bigger ones do. Check into your library to see what they offer. If they don’t offer a summer reading program suggest they start one! 🙂

What summer reading programs have your kids enjoyed?

Dion’s Club Read Summer Reading Program

My daughter loves to read. A LOT. Which is why I’ve signed her up for 7 reading programs this summer. Some are short to complete, others are all summer long. The great thing is that she reads so much, so it’s not a hassle to complete them. And they give some variety to what she reads. One program I really like is through Dion’s Club Read summer reading program. This program is free and has some pretty great prizes. The only catch is that Dion’s pizza is not national, it’s only located in a few states. So if you happen to be in one of those states – check out their program! This program ends on July 17th so make sure you get it completed before then.

You have to complete 2 scorecards with this program and that means 6 books per card. You simply write down the titles your child read. After your child reads the first 6 you take your completed scorecard to your local Dion’s pizza. You get a backpack and your second scorecard. The backpack wasn’t that great honestly, because it’s the kind with drawstrings, but it was fun for my kiddo to complete. For the second scorecard she got a t-shirt, a free book, a ticket to a baseball game and a coupon for a free drink at the game. Not too bad! Mainly we did this one for the free baseball ticket and the shirt. 🙂 She didn’t like the book so it will end up getting sold to buy one she likes.

What summer reading programs does your child enjoy?

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program

My daughter reads. A LOT. So this summer I signed her up for 7 reading programs. One of them is the Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program. If you have a Barnes and Noble in your town you should look into this program. Your child has to read 8 books and you list the title of the books plus a reason why your child would recommend the books.  It’s just that simple! Once you’ve read 8 books and filled it out, you take it in to a B & N store to get a free book. Yes, a FREE book! We love free books. 🙂 They have book choices for grades 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and 5 and 6.

While I am not crazy about the American Girl dolls due to being made in China with PVC, a harmful plastic, I do like their books. They bring different time periods to life for children. Last year they had an American Girl book on the list too which was great. This year they have a different American Girl book: Traitor in the Shipyard: A Caroline Mystery (American Girl Mysteries). This one is a an American Girl mystery chapter book. I’m partial to mysteries myself so I was excited to see it on the list. I also like seeing the thicker books because I feel like she gets more substance.

What summer reading programs do your kids enjoy?

Summer Reading Bingo – Free Printable

My daughter reads. A LOT. Which is why she’s in 7 reading programs this summer. I got an email with the link to this free Summer Reading Bingo Printable this week from MeetPenny.com They have 3 reading charts and lists – one for 1st and 2nd grade, one for 3rd and 4th grade, and one for 5th and 6th grade. There is also a blank chart where you can add the titles of your own books if you’d like.

For my daughter’s bingo chart I decided to use the blank one and add books from they’re 1st and 2nd grade list. If she ends up needing more reading to do I might do another one with some of the 3rd and 4th grade books. Some of the books on the 1st and 2nd grade list I could not find at our public library and I didn’t really want to buy them so we substituted books at the library on subjects she likes.

Above is my daughter’s reading bingo chart. I didn’t put the author’s names on hers because I already added all the books to our library hold list and to her Kindle. If you need the author’s names for any of them please let me know! 🙂 Some of the books on the list are easy readers and some are chapter books. I like to mix it up to give her variety and so she doesn’t have to do big books all the time.

If you are doing the Scholastic free Summer Reading Program online make sure you count these books towards your child’s reading minutes for the week! You can also check the Sylvan Book Adventure free Summer Reading Program site to see if any of these books have quizzes for them. 🙂

What summer reading programs does your child enjoy?

Sylvan Book Adventure Free Summer Reading Program

My daughter reads. A LOT. For this reason I signed her up for 7 reading programs. One of the reading programs she’s signed up for is the Sylvan Book Adventure reading program online. With this program kids read books and then take quizzes on the books they’ve read. They earn points for the quizzes they take that can be redeemed for prizes. The prize list is small but it’s still fun for kids, and it’s a great way to help them remember what they read.

Not all books are available for quizzes so you might not be able to find all the books your child reads available. We only found two Thea Stilton books and one Animal Ark book. My daughter has read a ton of those books but we had to find other books on their list. Thankfully most of the A to Z Mystery books were listed. So make sure you pick books that they have quizzes for. Their site says they have over 8,000 books with quizzes so you should be able to find some books your child likes. 🙂

The quizzes are timed but they give kids 20 minutes for each quiz, which I think is very fair.  If you get 2 or more answers wrong you have to retake it. The quizzes only have 10 questions for each book so they aren’t overwhelming for kids.

These are just some of the prizes available. Most of the good prizes cost 2000 points. You can get 135 points per quiz if you get 9 questions correct and 150 points per quiz if you get all 10 questions correct. So there is the opportunity to get that many points. Again, like with the Scholastic free Summer Reading program, you can customize for your own child. For example, if your child gets 1000 points you buy them a new book, or something that fits their tastes! Get creative and make it fun! 🙂

What summer reading programs do your kids enjoy?

Scholastic Free Summer Reading Program for Kids

My daughter read. A LOT. She could read 5 or more chapter books a day if I let her. So for this reason I signed her up for 7 reading programs this summer. This way she gets rewards for her reading and it gets her reading stuff she might not normally choose. One of the programs I chose is the Scholastic free summer reading program. It’s done online which is fun, kids can even make their own cute avatar with a fun background. You sign your child up with a fun screen name, and then you log how many minutes they read each week. They can win badges and prizes. My daughter got a free download of a Puppy Place book as one of her prizes.

They also have a cool way to measure minutes read against landmarks, which is fun for kids to see. You also get badges each time your child’s minutes reach a certain landmark. Since kids all over the world are participating it’s fun to see the goals grow compared to the last 2 years.

This is a sample of what the badges page looks like. 🙂 If your child goes to school you can sign your child up under their school and it tally’s the school’s minutes altogether as well. Since we homeschool I signed up my daughter on her own. If you wanted to add extra incentive you could give a prize for a certain number of minutes reached. Like if they reach 2,000 minutes you will let take them to the movies, for example. The nice thing is that you can be creative with it in a way that works for your child!
